Element Analysis

All matter in the physical world is composed of elements described in the periodic table, and the specific combination of these elements determines the macroscopic and microscopic behavior of materials. We use elemental analysis to understand matrices in agriculture, the food industry, and pharmaceuticals. This includes an accurate description of the total and available nutrients in soils, plants and fertilizers, as well as the assessment of environmental risks and contaminants such as heavy metals. The specific composition of foods and pharmaceuticals provides information about their nutritional value, quality, safety and functionality, but can also help to perform origin and fraud analyses. The underlying analytical portfolio includes basic, official methods for sample preparation, extraction and analysis (according to VDLUFA ) as well as state-of-the-art technologies such as:

  • Isotope ratio mass spectrometers for high-performance stable isotope analysis
  • Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES)
  • Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)
  • Various element analyzers (C, Corg, N, S)
  • Continuous Flow Analyzer
